While it is common for people to be obsessed with tea and caffeinated drinks, food and water are primary staples that are imperative for the survival of any human being. Meet “Chai Wali Chachi” from Chattisgarh who decided to break the norms and has managed to survive only on tea for over 30 years.
Locally known as Chai Wali Chachi for her quirky lifestyle, Pilli Devi, from the Koriya district of Chattisgarh, is a 44-year-old woman who gave up food and water at the age of 11 and has been surviving on tea ever since. Although the most surprising part is that she has been deemed “completely healthy” by medical professionals. After returning from a district level tournament during her sixth grade, she decided to consume milk tea with bread and biscuits, but eventually switched to a full-on tea diet, according to her father. The doctors who were amazed by Devi’s unconventional nourishment stated, “It is surprising. Scientifically speaking, a human being cannot survive on tea for 33 years. It’s different when people keep fast for nine days during Navratri and only drink tea. But 33 years is a lot of time, this is not possible.”
According to her family members, Devi, who is an ardent devotee of Shiva, rarely sets a foot outside the house.
