In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly kidnapped, gang-raped, and assaulted in the Vivek Vihar area of Delhi city on Republic Day. A group of people, including women, are involved in the attack. Reportedly, a group of illicit-liquor sellers had kidnapped and gang-raped her. Later, they chopped off her hair, tore her clothes, blackened her face, and then paraded her in the streets. The Delhi police have arrested 4 women in connection with the case.
The incident is suspected to be the result of the woman's personal enmity with the accused, police said. The woman, who is married and has a child, was being followed by a youth from the neighborhood. He later died by suicide in November. However, the youth's family held the woman responsible for his suicide. It was the women of the youth's family, who attacked the victim on the streets. A video of the incident that shows the woman being attacked is doing the rounds on social media.
"All possible help and counseling are being provided to the victim. We are taking the matter seriously. A team of elite officials has been formed to look into it, we will arrest all the accused soon," said the DCP. The police said that an FIR for gang rape has also been lodged on the complaint of the woman, who is undergoing treatment in a hospital. Her condition is stated to be stable.
