Kota: A 33-year-old woman in Rajasthan, identified as Deepika Gujjar, drowned her 6-month-old son in a water tank. She supposedly committed this action in deep sleep early Sunday morning. She has now been arrested under Section 302 of the IPC. The mother took her child, Shiva, to the second floor where she drowned him. She then returned to the first floor and went back to sleep.

Her husband, Sitaram Gujjar, woke up at 1:30 am to find the child missing. Deepika Gujjar then engaged in a search operation for the child along with her husband and his mother without revealing anything about the crime. Her mother-in-law found the baby in the tank. The mother continued to mislead the police for one day before breaking down during questioning and confessing to the crime.

The Station House Officer Harendra Singh said that the woman had reported that she drowned the baby in the tank “unknowingly”. The motive for this has not been ascertained yet. The woman has no history of mental illness as far as it is known, but this is being investigated. Two of her children have died previously due to natural causes.
