The BJP-led Centre has decided to convene the winter Session of Parliament from 15th December. The decision has been sent for President’s ratification.
Each year, the winter Session of Parliament is convened by November to last for a few weeks. The routine of convening Parilament’s winter session during November has been a practice which had been followed in a steadfast manner for many years by successive Governments at the Centre.
However, though it is only a week for November to end, the Centre hasn’t made any formal announcement so far about convening the Parliament session. The ensuing Gujarat Assembly elections, scheduled to be held in two phases on 09th and 11th December, are said to be a factor which delayed the Centre’s announcement about convening the Winter session of Parliament.
The Union Cabinet which met yesterday under Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to convene the session for 20 days from 15th December onwards. The proposal to convene Parliament has been sent to the President for his consent.
