Google is up for something big. Its new Artificial Intelligence project is set to roll out an AI computer system that can predict whether a patient admitted to a hospital will die 24 hours after admission. Its predictions are accurate to the tune of 95%.
This AI system is supplied with data about patients in helping it come to the right conclusion. Not just the patient's age, ethnicity and gender, but also data related to prior diagnoses, lab findings, vital signs currently shown by the patient (among others) are analyzed by the system. It's with this information that the system makes predictions.
"Even doctors' notes buried away on charts and/or in PDFs" can be processed by this unique system.
Just as human beings become smarter with experience, the AI systems too can become more intelligent with time. This is known as machine learning. "AI advances by the 'Medical Brain' team could help the internet giant finally break into the health-care business," a journalist says.
Recently, Google AI said, "We are continuing to expand our GoogleAI teams around the world. We will be opening our first research center in Africa's Ghana later this year!"
