Dramas set in the backdrop of Partition have been there, some more popular than others. 'Gadar' (2001) was a huge blockbuster, and it was not entirely immune from motivated criticism.

Many years after such a bold movie, Gurinder Chadha has made a Partition film based on her own research into hitherto concealed accounts. The lady director of British-Asian ethnicity has said that Partition was a calculated political move. If the Trailer (released earlier today) is any indication, the film throws light on Viceroy Lord Mountbatten's ulterior 'plan'.

To make the matters more interesting, Lady Mountbatten, another controversial figure for many Indians, has a prominent role in the "alternative historical". Jinnah, Nehru and Gandhi are engaged in conversations, some of them could be eye-opening.

Communal clashes involving Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs are narrated as a human story.

Hugh Bonneville as Mountbatten, Huma Quereshi, Om Puri, and others are a part of the cast.
