The recent Supreme Court judgment by the bench of Justice M.Y. Eqbal and Justice Amitava Roy stating that unmarried couple who are living in together will be considered married in the eyes of law has raised an important question that will people like Anita Advani, the live-in partner of Rajesh Khanna, get justice?
It may be noted that soon after separation from his wife, Dimple Kapadia, superstar Rajesh Khanna had been living in relationship with Anita Advani for a period of over one decade.
Anita Advani, the lady, gave her best part of youth to Khanna and most importantly when Khanna was ailing and needed his near and dear ones with him, none were there except Anita Advani, who was round the clock with him. She took care of his medicines and all his comforts.

But alas soon after the death of Rajesh Khanna, DimpleKapadia, along with his son-in-law actor Akshay Kumar forcibly evicted Anita Advani from Rajesh Khanna`s bungalow Aashirwad, claiming her to nothing but Khanna`s mistress!!!
Later Anita fought a lone battle to seek her right. In 2013 she filled a case under the Domestic Violence Act and demanded she be allowed access to Ashirwad, Rajesh Khanna's bungalow in Bandra, where she claimed to have lived with the actor since 2003.
Her lawyer correctly said, "Anita has been humiliated and removed from Ashirwad by the family members, which is unfair." He added, "A woman should not suffer all her life like this. Women should have the right to fight for justice."
However tragically on April 10, 2015, the Bombay High Court quashed the case observing that the relationship between Advani and Khanna was not in the nature of marriage and that, she cannot seek relief under the Domestic Violence Act.
Thus the big question is like Anita Advani there are several girls who are dumped after few years of live-in-relation.
So isn`t it Supreme Court responsibility to give justice to such girls. And what better way to begin by giving justice to Anita Advani with reference to the recent SC order!
