Will PIKU revive family drama genre in Bollywood?

The astounding success of Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan's family drama PIUK depicting the poignant and hilarious tale of father - daughter relationship has taken the film industry folks by surprise.
According to trade pundits the movie opened on Friday to an average response but thanks to the movie's heart rendering story laced with quality humor the movie has broke all office records and is being termed as the biggest grosser for the year 2015!
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh informed, "The movie had a slow start with Rs 5.32 crore on its first day but with word of mouth publicity the collection began to mount as the film collected 8.70 crore on Saturday and a real windfall was observed on Sunday with Rs.11.20 crore. Overall the movie raked in Rs 25.22 crore at the domestic turf in the first three days."
"The phenomenal growth of the movies proves that the movie will continue its command at the box up and end up doing roaring business," he quipped.
What is more encouraging for PIKU is that the movie has not just impressed Indian audience with its sensitive story of grown-up people taking care of their ageing parents but even the West has been left mesmerized by the intimate bond between the daughter and father.
According to reports the movie has done excellently in international circuit too. It has already collected Rs 14.52 crore thus becoming the biggest opener of 2015 overseas.
After watching PIKU one is reminded of the family dramas dished out by filmmakers of the south in the 60's. Films like BHABHI, KHAANDAAN, SASURAL, CHOTI BEHAN, BHAI BEHEN etc. In fact in the 60's South filmmakers like L.V.Prasad, AVM, Gemini Pictures ruled the roost for their unmatched family dramas.
Family drama genre has been a success mantra in Bollywood even later on. Remember movies like BAWARCHI, SANSAR, AVTAAR, HUM AAPKE HAIN KAUN, HIM HAIN RAHI PYAR KE, BAGHBAN, KABHI KHUSHI KABHI GHAM, KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI etc.
One hopes PIKU to review the family drama genre back in Bollywood because people are bored of action and sex. What's more with declining virtues and human values such films are very important at least they may be able to instill such noble virtues in the younger generation!!
