DMK president M. Karunanidhi’s estranged son and former Union Chemicals & Fertilizers Minister M.K. Azhagiri has stated that he was ready to re-join the DMK if he is invited to do so by his father.

Azhagiri fell out with his father a few years back and remains alienated from the party cadres and functionaries though his close friends and supporters in Madurai are hoping that he would be taken back into the party against the wishes of the party’s working president and Azhagiri’s half-brother M.K. Stalin.

Azhagiri met his father on Wednesday at the latter’s Gopalapuram residence while celebrating the first birthday of his grandson.  Later, speaking to newsmen, Azhagiri said that his father had been doing well.

When a scribe asked him whether he still nursed the chances of staging a comeback to the DMK, Azhagiri shot back saying that he was ready to re-join the DMK if he is invited to do so by his father, who is the party’s president.
