E-commerce giant Amazon's CEO, Jeff Bezos, is in India to announce a huge investment. On Friday, the company said that it plans to create one million new jobs in India by 2025 through investments in technology, infrastructure and its logistics network.
Since 2014, Amazon has committed more than six billion dollars, including the latest commitment of one billion dollars.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that Amazon is not doing India any favour by investing one billion dollars. His remark has caused a row. Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha said, "The economy is bust. Fiscal deficit soaring. But hey, India does not need #Amazon’s billion-dollar investment. Sorry, this is not just juvenile arrogance but pure tosh." Jaiveer Shergill, a national spokie of Congress, said, "Piyush Goyal's statement qua Amazon makes mockery of BJP Govt much advertised “Invest in India” scheme; PM Modi travels all over world telling investors to invest in India and his Minister says they r not doing favors by investing in India-Is “Run away from India” new scheme of government?"
