The first part of Mani Ratnam's dream project 'Ponniyin Selvan' aka 'PS-1' is releasing worldwide in theaters in five languages on September 30th. The core team of Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha and Parthiban are on a hectic promotional tour of India along with the legendary director himself.

During one of the recent press interactions a question was posed why Vairamuthu who has been associated in most of the movies of Mani Ratnam so far has been excluded in 'Ponniyin Selvan'. The intense filmmaker replied that Tamil has been there for centuries and it is such a rich language that there is always room for more people to shine.

Calling Vairamuthu, fantastic and cherishing his collaborations, Mani Ratnam stated that he wanted to work with new lyricists to discover new thought processes in the poetry. He also added that it was he along with A.R. Rahman who have converted most of Vairamuthu's poems into songs.

'Ponniyin Selvan' is produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies and stars Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Jayaram, Parthiban, Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Nizhalgal Ravi, Rahman, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Sumithra, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Vikram Prabhu.
