Why Tollywood guests were absent at Nayanthara’s wedding

Nayanthara’s wedding with Vignesh Shivan was a grand affair on Thursday. Some of the biggest Kollywood stars graced the occasion, probably with the sole exception of Kamal Haasan. Rajinikanth, Vijay and Ajith were there.

Surprisingly, Tollywood was conspicuous by its absence. Even a couple of Bollywoodians made it to the wedding (read Shah Rukh Khan and Boney Kapoor). How come there were no guests from the Telugu film industry?

Telugu cinema is integral to Nayanthara’s early filmography. She may not have done many Telugu movies in the 2010s, but she has always been popular among the Telugu audience. ‘Sri Rama Rajyam’ with Nandamuri Balakrishna is an example.

It’s said that Nayan didn’t invite many from Tollywood because she doesn’t have a network in Hyderabad. She has never had friends here, unlike many of her contemporaries. Moreover, Kollywood comes first to her and understandably so. Samantha Ruth Prabhu is a friend who got an invite but couldn’t attend the wedding. Rumours are that Chiranjeevi, her ‘Godfather’ co-star, couldn’t make it to the wedding despite an invite.
