The 'Why this Kolaveri di' song from the movie '3' directed by Aishwarya Dhanush and starring Dhanush and Shruti Haasan was the first viral global hit on YouTube and is still on top after eight years down the line. The song catupulted the then debutant Anirudh Ravichander to the top league of music composers and established Dhanush as a lyricist too.

'3' was produced by R K Film Productions belonging to Aishwarya Dhanush which sold the Tamil and Telugu rights of the album ot Sony Music South. It was later alleged that the music company violated the copyrights by illegally exploiting the song in Hindi and several other languages. The production house filed a case against the music company and the management officials were asked to appear before the court in person. Sony Music filed a counter seeking dismissal of the case.

The case by Sony Music South came for hearing on Monday and the judge Velmurugan ordered that there is evidence of copyright infringement on part of the company and refused to dismiss the case by the 'Why this Kolaveri di' producers. However exemption was granted to the officials of the music company from appearing in person.
