Why is Shami not Getting the Man of the Match Award?

The match between India and West Indies ended favourably for the Men in Blue again. After posting a score of 268 on the board, India’s bowlers were absolutely stellar in defending the score. They cleaned up West Indies for 143 in 34.2 overs. Looking at the wicket-takers, at the forefront was Mohammed Shami with 4 wickets in 6.2 overs with an economy of 2.53. Yet after this brilliant performance, he did not get the man of the match. The award was presented to Virat Kohli for his 72 runs from 82 balls.

This is the second match that Shami has played in the World Cup and this is his second four-wicket haul. In the previous match against Afghanistan, the bowler even got a hat-trick, becoming only the second Indian bowler and the tenth bowler in the world to do so in the World Cup. He bowled the crucial last over getting out the settled Mohammed Nabi, sealing the match for India. He did not get the man of the match award in that game either. It went to Jasprit Bumrah for the wickets of Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi. Fans have begun to question why Shami is not getting an award that he deserves.
