Why is Anurag Kashyap angry over BOMBAY VELVET getting 'A' certificate?

  • IndiaGlitz, [Wednesday,May 06 2015]
Unarguably Anurag Kashyap's BOMBAY VELVET is this year' most anticipate film thanks to it media hype and the multiple controversies associated with the movie. Once again the movie is in news as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted the film an 'A' certificate on account of huge violence in the film.
Though the Adult certificate these days is not a taboo any more with acclaimed actors like Aamir Khan (DELHI BELLY) and Naseeruddin Shah (ISHQIYA) jumping into the A bandwagon without any hitch, yet filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is quite peeved at BOMBAY VELVET being granted A' certificate.
Fuming with anger he retorted, "My film is a crime thriller based on the authentic 1960s Prohibition era of Mumbai and the protagonists' ambition to grow in the heartless city at any cost."
He added, "It has nothing violent or sexual content that the CBFC have granted it an Adults Certificate. I will be sending the film to the Revising Committee. I have faith in them."
One wonders why Anurag Kashyap is making a hue and cry over the A' certificate because an A' certificate these days has become license to success. The recent success of Sunny Leone's EK PAHELI LEELA to Varun Dhawan;s BADLAPUR and Rani Mukerji's MARDANI is pointer to the success mantra of Adult certificate.
In the past too Aamir Khan's DELHI BELLY, an adult comedy had broken the dry spell at the box office by earning Rs.15.65 crore on its first two days and Mohit Suri's crime thriller MURDER 2 earned Rs.34.9 crore net in the first week.
In addition who can forget the roaring business of Ekta Kapoor's THE DIRTY PICTURE that gave a new height of popularity to its actress Vidya Balan.
