When director Zoya Akhtar narrated Farhan Akhtar`s character to him for 'Dil Dhadakne Do', he really liked the character. Even though it was small, he liked the character so much that he decided to play it. Because, he strongly felt that the character voices the ideology of MARD, a platform created by Farhan that is about gender equality.

In fact, Farhan played Sunny`s character in 'Dil Dhadakne Do' because of the stance it takes in the film. Even while playing Sunny`s character, Farhan realized the real life similarities to the character that he has.

Farhan chooses to express this belief through the platform of MARD - Men Against Rape and Discrimination. 'Dil Dhadakne Do' talks about gender equality. Farhan personally has set up MARD which is an initiative which works towards spreading gender awareness. In fact, Farhan`s one particular scene moves the entire theatre to a huge round of applause. The scene where he talks about gender equality and stands up for Priyanka Chopra against Rahul Bose is a really powerful scene and there is a unanimous applause in theatres after Farhan delivers this dialogue.

Farhan has been receiving praise from all quarters and audience appreciation for his performance in 'Dil Dhadakne Do'. In his short screen time Farhan brings the screen alive and has managed to captivate the audience, leaving a lasting impression in the minds of the audiences.
