The suspense over who among the unified AIADMK led by EPS-OPS, Dinakaran’s faction and Deepa’s faction would be allotted the original ‘Two-Leaves’ symbol, name and flag of the erstwhile united AIADMK (frozen early this year by the Election Commission of India) still lingers.
The second deadline by the Madurai Bench of the High Court of Madras to wrap up the proceedings in the case and deliver a verdict ended on Friday (10th November). It now turns out that the Election Commission, which had been interrogating the concerned parties in this regard, has filed its final report with the Supreme Court.
After former Tamil Nadu chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa passed away under mysterious circumstances last December, the AIADMK split into two in February when Sasikala (now in prison in Bangalore in connection with the misappropriation of assets case) attempted to take over the party and the Govt. led by it. OPS and EPS led the factions which came together early in September.
Election Commission held many hearings with the concerned parties attending the sessions and presenting their written and oral arguments. The seven-phase interrogation was postponed on 08th November without any date getting fixed for the next hearing. This has given rise to speculation that a final verdict might just be out when the EC takes up the case the next time around.
