Recently, we reported Gemini Ganesan's daughter Kamala Ganesan as saying that 'Mahanati' distorts the marital discord between Savitri and her husband Gemini. Kamala slammed the film for projecting her late father as the culprit.

Interestingly, Vijaya Chamundeswari, Savitri's daughter, respectfully disagrees with Kamala. She says that her stepsister must have seen the film from her own perspective. The duo clearly has had a very healthy relationship.

Sounding affable towards Kamala, Vijaya says that she always respects Alamelu (Gemini's first wife and Kamala's mother), for it was she who mentored her.

What about the serious allegation that 'Mahanati' is wrong in portraying Gemini as the one who made Savitri a drunkard? Vijaya feels that Savitri might have started out as a social drinker. She reinterprets the 'Mahanati' scene where Gemini makes his wife drink. "It doesn't necessarily mean that she consumed alcohol for the first time (because of Gemini)," the daughter observes.

But what about Kamala's charge that the biopic degrades Gemini? "If you tell me where the film degrades Nanna garu, I can reply," she says, suggesting that the Nag Ashwin-directed movie is alright.
