Back in 2003, Chiranjeevi's Telugu-language hit 'Choodalani Vundi' was remade in Hindi as 'Calcutta Mail'. If Anil Kapoor reprised the Megastar, the film had Rani Mukerji and Manisha Koirala reprising Anjala Jhaveri and Soundarya. Directed by Sudhir Mishra, the film tanked at the box office.

It was jointly produced by C Ashwini Dutt and Allu Aravind. In his latest interview, Aravind revealed that the remake fetched the duo losses to the tune of several crores. Although interviewer Ali interpreted the loss as Rs 32 Cr, that doesn't seem to be the case, for Aravind only used the word '32 pallu' and did not any figure.

The film was proof that not all blockbusters work in other languages.

Aravind also revealed that the budget of 'Magadheera' exceeded by 80% compared to the planned figure. "Despite the huge stakes, I released the movie by myself without selling it to external distributors. That's because I was confident in Rajamouli's craft. The film fetched me profits three times the investment," the Geetha Arts supremo revealed.
