When Suraj, the director of 'Okkadocchadu' made objectionable comments regarding all heroines in general, his heroine Tamannah and Nayanthara expressed their disagreement in strong terms. Following the outrage over the comments in several sections of the media, it was expected that Suraj would apologize.

In his official press statement, the director has said, "I am really sorry and would like to apologize to Tamannah and all the heroines in the industry. My intention was not to show anyone in bad light or hurt their sentiments. I am sorry once again and I take back my comments."

In one of his interviews during the promotions of 'Kaththi Sandai' (the Tamil title), Suraj suggested that skin show is what the mass audience look for and that if heroines want to showcase their acting talent, they can do so in other forums and not in mainstream cinema.
