What Made Theri Super Successful?

One week down, but in reality it has been a week of up-time for Theri. There is no contesting the phenomenal success of the movie. With the team happy on one side, celebrating their success and hosting success meet, and critics on the other, taking a dig at reality against pitfalls, we took off to a little survey. We'll be honest here - while ardent fans found it hard to limit their list of favourites to a count of ten, even haters couldn't resist appreciating some of the noteworthy moments in the movie. As neutralists ourselves, we picked five of all the responses, to brand the timeless classics from Theri.
1. Vijay Kumar's intro:
Can you beat that? Joseph Kuruvilla's emergence from behind a bike could have landed bland, but the powerful entry of Vijay Kumar more than makes up for the missing flavours. This creative scene is one that will be spoken of, for years to come. There are better ways to hit your point hard than merely with thudding punches. And certainly, being educated is tougher than being violent. So many subtle messages in one comic-action sequence.
2. Ina Mina Tika:
Come on, who doesn't like this song? The choreography, picturisation, the song itself, are all so catchy that it is easily a crowd favourite. What better way to project a father-daughter love?
3. Brother's revenge:
Being a sibling or simple reassurance could feel good, but nothing beats the real brotherhood that Vijay expresses for a girl he hardly knows yet deeply mourns. Intelligently crafted, the scene at the bridge, when he verbalizes his revenge for his sister's brutal death, is a mass appealer.
4. Otha Sollala:
This was a graceful charm in the movie. No one saw such a cracker coming, and Vijay carried it off with such ease. A little bit from his own first movie, and a little from another blockbuster, this lighthearted 'ponnu pakara' scene where Vijay Kumar visits a prospective bride is yet another favourite for many.
5. Construction worker's kid
Although he played only a fleeting role in the movie, this kid has left no stone unturned. The little kid who gets orphaned when his parents die at a construction site features at the death of one of the villains, in a celebrated entry. The attitude on his face and the demeanour of his presence, all go to show that the boy is a born actor. Kudos to the team, for the find.
We have deliberately excluded scenes with baby Nainika and the climax in our list, as they are definite favourites to one and all. The film may have slipped in logical cohesion, tripped a pebble in editing, and disappointed those who wanted raw action, interactive song picturing, and powerful dance. However, there is music, story itself, dialogues, high dosage of emotions, humour, taut screenplay, smart stunts, and so much more, which has made Theri what it is. Having said that, we appreciate the captain of the ship, who has sailed us through an interesting two and half hours. Good work Atlee, way to go!
Sadly, missed watching Theri yet? No problem. It is the material that will run in packed houses, a hundred days and more.
