What made Anurag Kashyap envious?

It’s not often that successful film directors openly admire the work of their contemporaries.

However, Anurag Kashyap had no qualms admitting that he simply loved the work of debutant director Shivajee Chandrabhushan in the film ‘Frozen’.

‘Frozen’ is a Black & White film, the first one in the last 40 years of Indian Cinema, and is based on the lives of a father-daughter-son trio played by Danny Denzongpa, debutants Gauri and Angchuk respectively.

In fact the maverick director regrets that he did not think of making such a film first! “ Frozen is the most cinematic film to have come out in India in last few years.. it’s a pure visual delight. This film makes me envious. I wish I had done it.” Says Anurag.

Now that’s high praise indeed for debutant Director Shivajee Chandrabhushan who shot this film in the harshest of climates on the northern Himalayas, in Ladakh!

The film delves into the disruption caused by the arrival of armed forces base camps which throws the otherwise serene yet difficult life of the natives into disarray.

The cast includes Yashpal Sharma, Raj Zutshi, Sanjay Swaraj, Aamir Bashir, Denzil Smith, Shakeel Khan and Shilpa Shukla. The film is scheduled to release on 8th May '09 by Enlighten Film Society.
