What happen in 1984 was genocide, not riots, says Diljit Dosanjh

Beloved singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh is all set for the release of his film 'Jogi' which is based the 1984 anti Sikh massacre. In October 1984, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her sikh bodyguards and around 3000 Sikhs lost their lives in the violence that followed.

In a recent media interaction, Diljit has stated that what happened in 1984 was genocide, not riots as it is popularly called. He told PTI, “We should not call it riots, the right word is genocide. When there is a two-sided fight between people, then it is a riot. According to me, it should be called a genocide."

Diljit added, “It is not that it happened to one or a few people. I know it happened collectively, with all of us. If I talk about some incidents, it will be personal. We are talking about it collectively in the film. I have been hearing about it since I was born and we are still living with it."

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and also starring Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub and Hiten Tejwani, 'Jogi' is set to release on Netflix this Friday.
