Taking on DMK’s working president M.K. Stalin, AIADMK’s deputy convener and Tamil Nadu chief-minister Edapadi K. Palaniswami wondered what Stalin did for R.K. Nagar’s welfare when he held the post of Mayor of Chennai in the past.
EPS and party convener and deputy chief-minister O. Panneerselvam have been jointly campaigning in support of party leader and R.K. Nagar candidate Madhusudanan, who served MLA for a full term of five years from the same constituency during 1991-96. R.K. Nagar, vacated by last December’s mysterious demise of former chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa, is to vote on 21st December to elect its new representative.
As only a few days are left for the polling, campaigning has intensified. The DMK held a public meeting yesterday in which leaders of all political parties supporting it (including MDMK’s Vaiko) took part. EPS, OPS, Ministers Rajenthira Balaji, Velumani and other leaders attended a huge public meeting organized at New Washermenpet by the ruling AIADMK in support of its candidate.
Speaking on the occasion, EPS told Stalin not to worry about AIADMK’s performance in the by-polls. “Whether we win or not lies in people’s hands and we would ensure that people vote for us in huge numbers. I only want to know what Stalin did for the welfare of this constituency during his tenure as Mayor of Chennai. Madhusudanan is a senior leader and an ardent follower of ‘Puratchithalaivi’ Jayalalithaa’s policies.
“Madhusudanan Anna has never held any post for the past 21 years but has taken to the field only to retain Amma’s constituency for the party. It is the people’s duty to ensure that Madhusudanan is elected to the State Legislative Assembly by voting in his favour,” he appealed to the people.
