Jamaican cricket legend Chris Gayle, who plays international matches representing the West Indies team, has released a video thanking India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sending Covid-19 vaccines to Jamaica.
Under the Indian government's 'Vaccine Maitri' global initiative, the country has been providing its coronavirus vaccine to all friendly nations, among which Jamaica received 50,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. Chris Gayle is heard saying in the video, "Hon'ble PM of India and the people of India, the government of India, I want to thank you for your donation of vaccine to Jamaica, I appreciate it. Thank you so much. India, I will see you soon." Meanwhile, another West Indies player, Andre Russell, said, "I just want to say a big, big, big thank you to Prime Minister Modi and the India High Commission. The vaccines are here and we are excited. I would love to see the world going back to normal. Jamaica people really appreciate it and just to show that we are more than close, India and Jamaica are now brothers. I appreciate it and stay safe over there. Peace."
Chris Gayle and Andre Russell are among the most lethal players of the various Indian Premier League franchises. The 14th edition of the tournament is scheduled to begin on April 9. Chris Gayle plays for Kings XI Punjab while Andre Russell is associated with Shahrukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders.
