Ram Gopal Varma is in Hyderabad after the Hyderabad Cyber Crime department summoned him for questioning over a complaint filed by evangelist KA Paul, who alleged that his morphed image was uploaded by the director on his Twitter handle recently.
In this interview, RGV talks about how some people stalled the release of 'Amma Rajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu' for two weeks and are problematic in his way. Catch him justify what he has shown in the film in the name of satire.
Excerpts of RGV's latest comments
"Due to the problems posed by the likes of Indrasena Chowdhary, KA Paul and others, the release date had to be pushed by two weeks. The court held that the film doesn't have anything against any caste or community. Those who have tried to defame us and our film will have to pay the price. We will approach the court for action against them."
"Real-life Assembly sessions are so strange that my film hasn't shown even 10 per cent of the eccentricity. I feel everyone should have the freedom to offend. Otherwise, there is no point in having freedom of expression."
"Our film is a satire. Some of our detractors have alleged that we lied to the court. Do they think courts are so ignorant?"
"We are on a fact-finding mission to know who all were behind stalling our film for two weeks. We are going to out those facts soon. Had the film released on December 29, ours would have been the only film in the fray."
"We will demand Rs 20 Cr as damages from the six people who stalled our movie, causing us losses."
"I have made fun of myself in 'ARKB'. We watch animation cartoons of politicians in news channels, etc. All this is part of communication. When it is convenient, people take such things in their stride. Otherwise, they protest. I have shown the Assembly Speaker to be sleeping in my film. Doesn't it reflect reality, although it has been exaggerated?"
"When George Bush Sr was alive, someone made a film in America depicting his assassination. Such kind of imagination is what I have done here. In real life, we are unsure about so many things, like the characters in 'ARKB' are about the assassination of Dayaneni Rama."
"Many people haven't understood the very concept of 'ARKB', which imagines a future that might or might not happen. A character cries like a kid in my film because the Chief Minister calls him a 'Bantrothu'. The whole point of fun will be missed if question the imagination."
"In one of the scenes, a follower of Pawan Kalyan stares at him during a speech. Even this reflects reality. Nara Lokesh is called 'Pappu' in the film. More than me, it is the TDP guys who call him by that name. Rahul Gandhi has been nicknamed as 'Pappu'. We don't know how it all began but so many people call him by that name."
"KA Paul claims to have stopped the Third World War. Funnily, he has failed to stop my film from releasing. The actor who has played Chandrababu Naidu in the film is a Marathi guy who can't speak Telugu. Despite having no blood relationship, he looks ditto like CBN. He works as a waiter. He practised a lot to get into the mould of his character."
About his upcoming movie
'Enter The Girl Dragon' celebrates sensuality and power. A person doesn't necessarily become secure just because she knows a martial art. It's an art by itself and that's all there is to it. After the Disha incident, many are of the opinion that women have to learn self-defence. Before all, it is important for the government to maintain law and order.
But for Bruce Lee, 'Enter The Girl Dragon' wouldn't be there. I studied his life in making a film like this. The actress who has played the protagonist is an exponent of Taekwando.
