Tamil Nadu chief-minister and AIADMK’s deputy convener Edapadi K. Palaniswami has asserted that the ruling AIADMK Government in the State neither supported the BJP’s views on (formation of) Cauvery Management Board nor was it allying with the ruling party at the Centre on the contentious issue.
DMK MLA Pitchandi raised the Cauvery river water sharing issue in the Assembly yesterday. While narrating a short story, he went on to say that the ruling AIADMK could not find a feasible solution to the Cauvery row as it was on friendly terms with the ruling BJP at the Centre. Taking on Pitchandi, the chief-minister said that the story narrated by Pitchandi applied only to the DMK and not to the AIADMK.
“We are neither supportive of the BJP’s stance on the issue nor are allying with it. We are taking all possible steps to ensure that justice is meted out to the State on the issue. However, the DMK remained mum when it was allying with the BJP at the Centre many years back,” the chief-minister said.
Analysts point out that the chief-minister’s statement puts to rest speculation in various quarters that his Govt. has been trying to be on ‘friendly’ terms with the BJP-led Centre mainly to save its skin.
