South Indian Film Artistes Association president R Sarath Kumar on Thursday said actors were not against the media and they indeed needed the support of the press.
Speaking to reporters after meeting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, he said the association is ready to settle the issue (over a report published in a Tamil newspaper on actresses) if the vernacular daily comes forward to apologies for its act.
"We are not here to fight with the media. We respect the press. A solution can be arrived at if the newspaper, through on its own or through any other media organisation, comes forward to apologies for the report, he said.
Earlier, a delegation led by Sarath called on Karunanidhi and briefed him about the feelings of actors, who were "hurt" by the article. They also "thanked the Chief Minister" for the arrest of 'Dinamalar' news editor Lenin.
Meanwhile, various journalist bodies on Thursday condemned the arrest of Lenin and demanded his immediate release. The Chennai Press Club, the Madras Union Journalists and the Madras Reporters Guild have issued statements condemning the arrest of the journalist on a complaint lodged by South Indian Film Artistes Association.
