The government of Karnataka is contemplating on meeting the scarcity of drinking water to Bengaluru via Nethravathi river water that is flowing to sea in the rainy season.

The probability of this diversion of Nethravathi river water excess during the rainy season to Bengaluru, a report was submitted by IISC scientists to the Water Board.

The Water Board chief Tushar Girinath handed over the report to urban development minister KJ George. The report in a nutshell suggests formation of a reservoir at Western part where Nethravathi water is situated. According to one calculation 350 TMC of water during the rainy season reaches the sea water. A reservoir constructed here would support 40 TMC of water to Bengaluru alone.

For the construction of reservoir thousands of acres of land is required. The natives might not like this aspect. The fishermen would be affected is also assessed.

For the flow of Cauvery water to Bengaluru for drinking Rs.32 is spent for one Kilometer. From Nethravathi river the rain water has to reach Bengaluru means it will cost Rs.42 per kilometer. The route made for this flow would also support other districts water it is possible says the scientists.
