After 'Lagaan', another film made by a director of Indian origin and narrating an Indian tale has been short listed for the OSCARS.

Edging past 'Rang De Basanti' in the first cut of nominations and now in the Top-5 list of 'Best Foreign Language Film', Deepa Mehta's 'Water', an entry from Canada, has reached the last leg of the Oscars. The films pitted against 'Water' are Days of Glory (Algeria), After The Wedding (Denmark), The Lives of Others (Germany) and Pan's Labyrinth (Mexico).

Ironically, in India the film is still awaiting for release. There is a good probability that it would be hitting the screens here on February 23rd.

In the category of 'Best Motion Picture', the films that have been nominated are Babel, Little Miss Sunshine, The Departed, Letters from Iwo Jima and The Queen. The directors in the shortlist are Martin Scorsese – The Departed, Clint Eastwood – Letters From Iwo Jima, Stephen Frears – The Queen, Alejandro Iñárritu – Babel and Paul Greengrass - United 93.
