Water crisis to affect 10 crore Indians by 2020

100 million of us are going to face a severe water crisis by next year. A recent NITI Ayog report says that groundwater will have depleted like never before in 21 Indian cities. Residents of large cities such as Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru will be affected immensely by the impending crisis.

By 2030, the situation will be so dire that 40 percent of the country's population will have no access to drinking water.

In this regard, governments are hoping to bank on two solutions: Decentralized water harvesting, and taking up massive desalination projects.

It's true that much of the crisis is man-made. Water mafias, etc have been rampant in some cities.
