Madhya Pradesh has been experiencing heavy rainfall since Monday. The Gwalior-Chambal region is reportedly the worst hit. On Tuesday, two bridges that connected Datia and Gwalior got washed away after the opening of the 10 gates of the Manikheda Dam. As shown in an ANI video, a large volume of water gushed through the gates. The bridge in the video was built in 2009. It had witnessed a stampede in October 2013, where 115 devotees were killed. The video of the bridge collapsing has gone viral on social media.
According to the IMD forecast, the state should see a significant reduction in the current spell of intense rainfall activity from Wednesday. Reportedly, several bridges were washed away in the Gwalior Chambal region, and property worth crores was damaged in the floods. The real picture of the flood fury would be known only by Wednesday, government sources said adding, the situation was really very bad.
