It can be easily said that "Dune" is the most anticipated film in Hollywood right now. Dune (Part One) is epic science fiction, helmed by Denis Villeneuve, the cinematic adaptation of a 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert.
Over the years, so many attempts have been made to adapt the novel onto the screens. But they were dropped as it is difficult to adapt on the screen, owing to its breadth of content. It can be said that Dune is like our renowned Ponniyin Selvan. Multiple attempts have been made to adapt it but didn't happen.
The only live-action adaptation on-screen is Dune (1984) by acclaimed filmmaker David Lynch. But the film failed to do justice to the fans and the book. Denis Villeneuve is an exemplary filmmaker whose best works are Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival, and Bladerunner 2049. has stated in interviews that making a new Dune adaptation had been a life-long ambition of his. He was hired to direct in February 2017.
Dune was initially planned to release more earlier, but Theater closures have put big delays on one of 2020’s most anticipated films. The sky-high expectation grew even higher and Dune is still the most anticipated in 2021. The first trailer of the movie was dropped 10 months ago. Fans have had to make do with just one trailer for months until today.
The main trailer of Dune came out this evening and ruling the internet since the release. For Indian audiences, the Dune trailer will be available in English and Hindi and there won't be any other local language versions. This flick is scheduled to premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival on September 3, 2021 and will release theatrically in the United States in 3D on October 22, 2021 by Warner Bros. Pictures with a simultaneous release on the HBO Max streaming service for 31 days.
This new adaptation of Dune is expected to limit itself to covering roughly the first half of the book. It was initially planned as two films but the sequel may not happen. Legendary Films and Warner Bros. has not yet given a green light to the sequel, because it costed a fortune to make Dune but it's doubtful that the film will collect big numbers due to the ongoing pandemic.
