The farmers of the Warangal district want the repeal of the contentious Government Order 80A. Today, hundreds of peasants staged a protest on the Hanamkonda-Hyderabad national highway, blocking the road.
They raised slogans asking for the immediate withdrawal of the GO. The police were deployed in large numbers in order to prevent the occurrence of any unwarranted incidents.
Due to the protests, the road was blocked. Traffic was stalled and it took hours for the entire vehicular traffic to be cleared. A few farmers were detained on the occasion.
Recently, a farmers' leader alleged that the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) will be doing real-estate business with the lands of the farmers of the 27 villages under its jurisdiction by abusing the GO.
Telangana Congress unit president Revanth Reddy is the only major Opposition leader who has taken up the cause to side with the farmers. He has been lending his support to the farmers.
