At least seven people were killed and nine seriously injured after a large fragment of rock collapsed over boats carrying tourists in Brazil. The incident happened on Saturday at Furnas Lake, a popular tourist attraction in southeastern Brazil. Videos of the shocking incident filmed by tourists from other boats are doing the rounds on social media.

The video shows the tourists screaming helplessly as a huge cliff smashed over their boats, sending a huge wave over the lake. The panic of the passengers who witnessed the scene from the other boats are also seen. Rescue teams including a dive squad and members of the Brazilian Navy rushed to Furnas Lake. According to a spokesperson, seven people were dead and over 20 people have gone missing. 32 people including the 9 seriously injured people were hospitalized. The search operation for up to 20 missing individuals is underway, said Minas Gerais Fire Department commander Edgard Estevo.

Officials suggested the rock face coming loose could have been related to heavy rains recently that caused flooding in the state. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro also took notice of the incident and said that the Navy deployed a relief force team to join the search and rescue efforts.
