A case has been filed with the Madurai Bench of the High Court of Madras seeking action against the Tamil Nadu Director-General of Police for getting involved in a scam while procuring walkie-talkies for Tamil Nadu police personnel.
Social activist Senthil of Madurai moved the Madurai Bench of the High Court of Madras by filing a petition in this regard. “Only one firm ‘Motorola Solutions’ had responded when tenders were called for to procure walkie-talkies for Tamil Nadu Police personnel; this firm was awarded the contract worth Rs.83.45 crores by the DGP’s office to supply walkie-talkies to the police personnel,” the petition said.
“While 10,000 walkie-talkie sets can be procured with Rs.47.56 crores, a mere 4,000 walkie-talkie sets have now been acquired at a whopping cost of Rs.83.45 crores,” Senthil said in his petition and added that a huge scam has taken place with a walkie-talkie worth Rs.48,000 is shown to have been purchased at a cost of Rs.2 lakhs.
Demanding action against the DGP, the petition said that a complaint filed with the Chief-Secretary demanding action in this regard hadn’t elicited any response. The Court is yet to take up this petition.
