Veteran lyricist Pulamai Piththan has vociferously raised his voice against remixing old songs. ÂIt is an insult to those songsÂ, thundered the poet. He went to the extent of saying that he would sue the music director, who does the remixing.
The occasion was ÂAyya Vazhi audio launch held on January 7, at Film Chambers, Chennai. The function was graced by veteran singers, musicians, and lyricists like S. Janaki, M.S. Viswanathan, K.J. Yesudas, Pulamai Piththan, and Muthulingam.
The audio was released by MSV and received by Yesudas. The music is done by Bhagavathi Sivanesan. Six songs from the film were screened.
ÂAyya Vazhi is a film made on the life of Vaikunda Sami, a spiritualist, who fought for equality in the society. The spiritual guru cum social reformer from Kanyakumari district worked very hard in the area to bring about social change during the earlier part of the 20th century.
The unit has gone to Mumbai to request S. Janaki to sing a song in the film. Touched by this gesture, the veteran singer immediately accepted to sing. After coming to know about Vaikunda Sami, she refused to get money for the song. This year marks the Golden Jubilee of JanakiÂs film career.
ÂAyya Vazhi is directed by Anbazhagan, the director of ÂKamarasuÂ, starring Murali and Laila. The film is expected to be released by the end of January.
