Director Rathnakumar had made his debut with the movie Meyaadha Maan, which was produced by Karthik Subbaraj, and had Vaibhav and Priya Bhavani Shankar in lead roles. The movie won great reviews and was a commercial success as well.

Rathnakumar directed the bold flick Aadai starring Amala Paul in the lead, and following this, the actor, who is an ardent fan of Vijay, has assisted Lokesh Kanagaraj in Master, and has been a part of the screenplay department.

After the recently held Master audio launch, the director has shared a photo of himself during the launch of Master and during the audio launch, and revealed that he was 97 kgs during the movie's launch and has lost 18 kgs and now weights 79 kgs, and thanked VJ Ramya Subramanian for inspiring him.
