It's been a week since 29 year old actress VJ Chithra died by apparently hanging herself in a hotel room in Nazerthpet on the outskirts of Chennai. Her husband Hemnath Ravi was arrested after five days of interrogation for allegedly abetting her suicide. The couple was staying in the hotel from December 3rd after an alleged argument with Chithra's mother who was forcing her to split from her husband due to his reputation as a womanizer.
When the police confiscated Chithra's cellphone call records were said to be deleted but the cybercrime had reportedly retrieved them. Sources have claimed that Chithra had called Hemnath's father Ravi hours before she died and spoke to him for a long time complaining about his son's irrational behavior.
Chithra is said to have told Ravi that Hemnath was suspicious of her character and was also interfering with her acting career asking her not to act in romantic scenes and even made a ruckus on sets. She had also spoken about his alcoholism and womanizing and requested her father-in-law to intervene and advise his son.
Reports say that Ravi instead of pacifying Chithra had strongly supported Hemnath and hurt the actress by his inconsiderate words and that is what is speculated to have driven Chithu to the extreme as she had hoped he would help.
Netizens are of the opinion that Chithra's father-in-law could have been more sensitive and if had spoken softly to her and had taken steps to advise his son the young actress could have been saved from death.
Hemnath's father had told newspersons that his son is innocent and that he and his wife considered Chithra as their own daughter. He accused the police of arresting his son to save someone else. More mysteries surrounding Chithra is expected to unravel as the police investigation tightens.
