More details are emerging about the Vizag Gas Leak.  There is a view that Styrene may have turned from liquid form into vapour because its storage temperature had exceeded 25 degrees centigrade.  

"Due to the lockdown, engineers/workers were not there to control the temperatures at the unit. As a result, the storage tanks seem to have been heated up," a report says.  The valve through which the vapour escaped into the air may or may not have been of poor quality.  Its quality is yet to be ascertained by an Inspector.  

Meanwhile, the AP Pollution Control Board has said that the unit did not use illegal equipment in the factory.  There is nothing to suggest that some illegal process has been employed by the company, the PCB has been quoted as saying by The New Indian Express.  

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has taken a suo moto cognizance of the tragedy.  "Why was a hazardous chemical unit allowed near residential areas," the Court asked on Thursday, serving notices on both the Centre and the state government.  

The police have booked LG Polymer under IPC sections 337, 338 and 304.  The chemical unit is accused of "causing death by negligence, causing hurt by endangering life or personal safety of others."
