Vivah
Sooraj Barjatya - The man who started it all.
Years back he made 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun' and since there has been no looking back. There have been thrillers, socials, actioners, love stories, comedies, horror flicks.....practically every genre of films that keep coming up with every passing year, but one genre that is most regular is a feel good family outing that has been devised to perfection by Sooraj Barjatya. Hence it doesn't come as a surprise when the filmmaker names his upcoming film as 'Vivah'. There have been films with titles like 'Shaadi No. 1', 'Shaadi Karke Phans Gaya Yaar', 'Shaadi Se Pehle', 'Shaadi Ka Laddoo' and many more but no one has attempted a title like 'Vivah'
'Vivah' - a simple word yet so meaningful. A word that minds two souls together and brings to fore a universal concept. And the young boy and girl who would soon be tied in this relationship are Prem [Shahid Kapoor] and Poonam [Amrita Rao].
Prem is the kind of boy who could be any girl's dream. He is fun to be with, sophisticated enough to get into a conversation with, sensitive enough to care about the people around him, decent enough to be introduced to one's parents and rooted enough to be relied upon.
In short, a boy with whom one can expect nothing to go wrong!
Son of a rich Delhi based businessman Mr. Harishchandra [Anupam Kher], he has his family values intact and in spite of being brought up in the capital, he hasn't forgotten the aspects of respect for the elders and love for the young ones. A student of journalism and literature from abroad, he has joined the family business and is one of the most eligible bachelors around.
Poonam is a girl who could just be the perfect match for Prem. Complimenting him at every step, even she carries the traits similar to Prem. Rooted in traditional values and carrying the respect and love for the ones close to her in the heart, Poonam is beautiful, charming, graceful and yet so simple and subtle.
She lives with her chacha Krishna Kant [Aloknath] in Madhupur (near Mathura) who dotes on her in the same way as he loves his daughter Rajni a.k.a Choti [Amrita Prakash]. She has been adopted after the demise of her parents and though her chacha doesn't differentiate between her and choti, her chachi Rama [Seema Biswas] has still not wholeheartedly accepted her even after all these years.
For her the love for Choti always has always been an obstacle for her love for Poonam. Reason? Choti is a happy go lucky girl who is not as beautiful or gorgeous as Poonam which is always a point of contention for Rama. Poonam is aware of this fact and always tries her best to get into the good books of her chachi. To her relief, Choti is the best of her pals and has always openly demonstrated her affection for her.
And now the time will come when Prem and Poonam would soon be on their way to get united.
Kehte hain naa ki jodiyan upar waala khud banata hai! And for that he has his men to do the task on earth. One such man was Bhagatji [Mohan Joshi], a common friend of Harishchandra and Krishna Kant. A jeweller by profession, he is a gem of a person who is known for his selfless approach towards thinking for the best of those close to him. And now, after being impressed by the conduct of Poonam, he believes that she is the best match for Prem.
He proposes to bring the two families together and arranges for the meeting where the girl, boy and their families could come together. Prem, looking at getting started with his dad's business is a little reluctant since he thinks that there are still some more years to go before he can establish himself and be prepared for the marriage. But on being gently persuaded by his well wishers, that include his elder brother Sunil [Samir S
