The motion poster of Thala Ajith's 'Viswasam' landed last night without any prior announcement and has still become India's most liked motion poster.  Thala Ajith plays the character "Thooku Durai" in the film and the name has become the most searched on Google.

Let's take a look at the historical significance of Thooku Durai.  The Nellai Singampatti zamindar's have built a Mahadevar temple behind their palaces where they worship every day.  In that temple there is a statue of Thooku Durai the 24th in line for the throne who sports a handlebar moustache, beard and a majestic turban.  On 17.10.1884 Durai was hanged to death by the Britishers for the killing of a jailer who had illegally arrested Durai's friend.

It is as yet unknown whether the story of 'Viswasam' has any resemblance to the life of Thooku Durai but the getup of Thala Ajith does have a strong similarity.  We will have to wait till Pongal 2019 when the film releases to get to know more about the iconic character.
