Superstar Rajnikanth and Thala Ajith arrived on silver screens together for the first time, as their latest movies, the Karthik Subbaraj directorial Petta and the Siva directorial Viswasam hit screens on January 10, as Pongal festival releases. Both the movies have been receiving extraordinary response from audience.

As per early trade reports, Petta has grossed around 11 crores in TN box office, while Viswasam has grossed above 16 crores on day 1, making Viswasam a clear winner in TN. However, in Chennai box office, Petta has the edge, as it grossed 1.12 crores on day 1 while Viswasam grossed 88 lakhs.

Reports are that after the second day, while Petta has been leading worldwide, with collections over 40 crores, Viswasam has grossed 35 crores worlwide, while still continuing to be number 1 at the TN box office. Viswasam has been received well by family audience and has been working at B and C centers, while Petta has been celebrated by fans, and is doing great in A centers.
