In 2016, Tollywood movie Pellichoopulu starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ritu Varma in lead roles and directed by the then debutant Tharun Bhascker Dassyam turned out to be a superhit movie and the romantic entertainer launched the career of Vijay Deverakonda as a hero.

Following this, the Tamil remake rights of the movie was acquired by director Gautham Vasudev Menon, with his associate Senthil Veerasamy, who has also acted in Rajathanthiram announced as the director of the movie. Titled Pon Ondru Kanden, the movie was supposed to star Vishnu Vishal and Tamannaah in lead roles but the project was shelved after delays.

Now the latest speculations making rounds is that the remake of Pellichoopulu might be restarted with the producers of the original Telugu version planning to produce it. Vishnu Vishal is reported to have agreed for the remake and a debutant named Divya might be directing the project. An official announcement on this movie is expected soon.
