2009 saw the release of the movie Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu, directed by debutant Suseenthiran, and the movie had literally no known face except for Kishore who was popular post Pollathavan. With low buzz, the movie was expected to go unnoticed, but fate had other plans, as the movie was well received by audience and critics, and marked the arrival of a promising hero - Vishnu Vishal.

The success of Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu lead to many offers immediately, and while Bale Pandiya and Drohi failed to perform, Kulla Nari Kootam was loved by audience. It was after this that Vishnu Vishal 2.0 arrived. Vishnu Vishal started getting selective in his choice of scripts, and began to star in interesting, unique stories.

He went on to play a reformed alcoholic turned fisherman in Neer Paravai, an 80s hero in Mundasupatti, a reflection of his real self - a cricketer in Jeeva, the hero in a time travel tale in Indru Netru Naalai, a rebel with a cause in Maaveeran Kittu, and balanced performance oriented, content based movies and fun, entertaining movies, by starring in comedy capers like Velainu vandhuutta Vellakaran, Kathanayagan as well, while also doing serious stuff like Ratsasan.
