Actor-producer Vishal, who is the general secretary of Nadigar Sangam as well as the president of the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC), has thanked Tamil Nadu Information & Broadcasting Minister Kadambur Raju for assuring that a welfare board to look after the Tamil film industry’s interests would be set up soon.
It has been a long-standing demand of K-Town which has been repeatedly telling successive Governments in the State to set up a separate welfare board to take care of their interests and needs. Film industry is in a limbo as theatre-owners and producers and distributors are striking against the exorbitant fee charged for digitizing newly-produced films.
Though the theatres have opened, no new Tamil film has hit the screens so far from 01st March onwards. In the meantime, Vishal had earlier announced that the artistes and film-makers together would take out a rally tomorrow (Wednesday) to meet the chief-minister and submit to him a list of their demands.
Commenting on the issue while talking to newsmen, Raju said yesterday that the issues have been taken to the chief-minister’s attention and added that they would be resolved soon enough. “If necessary and if it becomes inevitable, we won’t hesitate to initiate action to set up a separate Welfare Board to take care of the film industry’s needs and address its concerns,” Raju said.
Thanking the Minister for promising that a Welfare Board would be set up, Vishal exuded confidence that the Govt. of Tamil Nadu would fulfill all the demands of the film industry in the days to come.
