Many members as well as the key office bearers including the President Nassar, General Secretary,Vishal, Treasurer Karthi, Vice Presidents Karunas and Ponvannan took part in the event in which many resolutions were passed.
Recently the Tamil Nadu Government has unveiled the memorial for Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan in Adyar, Chennai. The statue of the legendary actor that was kept in the Marina beach by the erstwhile DMK Government has been placed in this memorial. However the name of former Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi, who opened a statue for Sivaji Ganesan during his rule, has been removed from the statue. The Nadigar Sangam has passed a resolution urging the ruling AIADMK government to include the name of Kalaignar in the thespian's statue.
While thanking the Government for constructing a memorial for Sivaji Ganesan, the Sangam's General Secretary Vishal requested the Government not to build a memorial for cinema by charging Entertainment tax. He noted that charging such exorbitant tax on films is akin to killing the industry. He requested that the Government order to levy 10% entertainment tax on new Tamil films apart from the 28% GST be withdrawn with immediate effect.
Regarding the long pending issue of constructing a new multipurpose building in the Nadigar Sangam land,. Vishal reiterated his promise the he will enter wedlock only after the building is completed. He also said the Sangam has won all the cases against the construction and they are also ready to fight any legal battle as they are honest.
Meanwhile the Treasurer Karthi said next year's Star Cricket tournament to raise funds for the construction of the building will be conducted in January 2018.
The Office bearers also confirmed that the elections to the Sangam will be conducted in September 2018 as they have promised to conduct the elections once in two years. They said, though they were initially not planning for contesting again, now since their promise of constructing the new building is yet to be achieved, they have no other go than contesting in the next elections as well.
These are the important resolutions passed in the Nadigar Sangam General Council meeting held today.
