The film fraternity put up a tremendous show in standing up to the cause of relief and rehabilitation of people affected by severe rains in Chennai. While a section of top stars contributed huge sums of money to support the relief and rescue works undertaken by government another section of actors stepped down to the ground and took part actively in relief work by distributing food and other basic amenities and coordinating relief materials flowing in from various locations within and outside the state of Tamil Nadu. Some actors did both.
Actor Siddharth and RJ Balaji who have been coordinating rain relief efforts through social media got to the field and distributed relief materials like food in various locations in Chennai. They created a Twitter hashtag ChennaiMicro` through which they have gathered and donated relief materials like food, blankets and medicines for thousands and thousands of rain affected people.
Nadigar Sangam General Secretary Vishal and Treasurer Karthi cancelled the shooting of their respective films and got busy with rain relief work for the past few days. They have been collecting and distributing relief materials to various rain affected places in Chennai as well as Cuddalore. Karthi headed to North Chennai and Vishal headed to Saidapet to support people stranded without basic amenities.
Actor Mayilsamy has prepared tonnes of food and has been travelling to various inundated places in Valasaravakkam, Virugambakkam and nearby areas through boat and distributed the food. Actor-Director Parthiepan has been personally delivering food and other relief materials for people in K.K.Nagar and MGR Nagar. Actor Dhanush also personally delivered food to many people severely affected by rains.
Actor Mammootty has announced in his social media page that his house in Chennai and the residences of his friends shall be used by people without shelter. He also shared the contact numbers of owners of these houses. Archana Kalpathi of AGS Entertainments gave opened up the AGS malls for the temporary accommodation of people who have lost their houses.
Actor Suriya who is presently in Indonesia has been coordinating water, biscuits and other relief materials through his Twitter page to various places affected by rain in Chennai. Actor Vishnu Vishal also used social media to deliver food at various rain affected places. Actor-photographer Sunder Ramu visited water logged areas with a boat to distribute relief materials.
