Actor-producer Vishal, who has filed his nomination papers to contest the upcoming R.K. Nagar by-polls in Chennai to be held on 21st December, has explained the reasons or factors which forced him to take to the field of politics.
At a time when it was widely thought that Kamal Haasan, who has hinted about his political entry many a time in the recent past, would contest the R.K. Nagar by-polls, Nadigar Sangam general secretary and Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC) president Vishal surprised his colleagues in the entertainment industry and his fans/friends by announcing his decision to contest the by-polls as an independent candidate.
“Nothing has been done to fulfill the needs of people of R.K. Nagar; they are yearning for a person to come and address their needs. I feel they count on me to deliver the goods if I get elected. Nobody has prompted me to take the political field; it’s a decision taken entirely by me. I’m not a politician and only a citizen of the country. Decision to contest the by-polls is taken mainly to drive home this point.
“I’m not competing with anyone in particular and have the support of youths who would help me usher in the necessary changes if I get elected,” Vishal concluded at a time when it was rumoured in the regional press that he had decided to contest the by-polls at Dinakaran’s behest.
