The Madras High Court has sent notices to actor Vishal and director MS Anandan after a case was filed by production firm Trident Arts to stop the release of the Vishal's next movie Chakra on OTT. Before passing an order to stop the OTT release, Justice N. Sathish Kumar decided to have a hearing involving the actor and the director.
Trident arts has accused Vishal of owing them over ₹ 8 crore because of the box-office performance of the movie Action. Trident Arts which has so far distributed more than 500 movies ventured into production in 2016 and had last produced Action directed by Sundar C.
The company has claimed that Vishal had persuaded them to produce the movie at a budget of ₹ 44 crore, and that he had agreed to bear the shortage if the movie does not collect ₹ 20 crore through collections in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Unexpectedly, the movie collected just ₹ 7.7 crore in Tamil Nadu and ₹ 4 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and resulted in a shortage of ₹ 8.29 crore. Trident Arts said that the actor agreed to act one in more movie, to be directed by MS Anandan in their banner, and were waiting for lockdown to end, but were shocked to find that the actor and director have made a movie titled Chakra and planned to release it on OTT platform. Trident Arts has mentioned that the script of Chakra was the same which they planned to produce and have urged the court to stay the release until the disputes are resolved and the actor furnishes sureties for ₹ 8.29 crore.
